The house was a disaster. I had a newborn baby plus a toddler, and everywhere I looked there was a mess to be cleaned.
The sink was full of dishes, the laundry basket was overflowing, toys covered the floor, the trash needed to be emptied, and the more I looked around the more discouraged I felt myself becoming.
I couldn’t see how I could possibly take care of my tiny newborn and my toddler and get the house back in order, but then before the discouragement could fully set in; the Holy Spirit reminded me of a phrase he had been planting deep in my spirit, “My God will make a way”.
He’s a Way Maker
For months the Holy Spirit had been working to remind me of this simple, yet profound phrase. He knew the impact it could have on my life because I’m constantly trying to make a way for myself. I often look to God, the Way Maker, only after I’ve first exhausted every other avenue in my mind.
Starting right then, instead of feeling discouraged by the overwhelming mess, I begin saying, “My God will make a way”.
As I held my very dependent newborn, got my toddler her third snack of the morning, and passed by the sink full of dishes; instead of feeling hopeless, I said, “My God will make a way”.
Do you know what happened by the end of the day? I had managed to navigate learning how to take care of not one, but now two children AND get my home back in order.
Little by little the laundry was put away, the dishes were washed, the trash was emptied, and before I knew it, God had made a way.
God Can do the Impossible!
God can do the impossible! He can make a way in the wilderness where there appears to be no way. (Isaiah 43:19) He can turn a dry desert into an oasis. (Psalms 107:35) There is absolutely nothing our great God can’t do!
Can I encourage you to begin to plant this phrase in your spirit too? Maybe your situation is far greater than a messy house. Maybe your finances are in shambles, maybe your marriage is falling apart, maybe you have a wayward child. I don’t know for sure what your overwhelming situation is, but I do know our God can make a way!
Even in the face of what appears to be impossible, HE can make a way.
Instead of overwhelming yourself with solution after solution, begin by declaring, “my God will make a way”!
This is a phrase I’m constantly using now to defeat discouragement, to silence satan, and to put God back in control. We don’t have to have all the answers, and that’s a beautiful thing.
Let’s pray!
A Prayer to Defeat Discouragement
“God,
We thank you that you are the way maker. We know, believe, and declare that you are able. In seemingly impossible situations, you Lord can make a way. When defeat and discouragement try to come our way, remind us Lord of your ability to always make a way. Forgive us God when we try to reason and resolve apart from you. You and you alone are able. We thank you and praise you for who you are, and we ask now that you begin to make a way in our seemingly impossible situations. We love you Lord. In Jesus precious name we pray, amen.”
Blessings to you!
Lauren
