God’s promises are meant for us to cling to. When circumstances look different than the promises of God, we should cling to them more than ever. We know that God is not a man that he can lie, so if He has said it, it is true!
As you read through these 33 promises, claim them as your own. Read them as if God is saying them directly to you because He is! These aren’t just vague promises meant for others, they are God’s personal promises to you.
My hope for you as you read through these 33 promises is that you will be reminded of just who God is, and all He has promised you. I strongly believe that God’s promises to us are one of our greatest treasures in this life, and they are worth meditating on and storing in our hearts. In times of trouble, we need to lean into them more than ever!
Don’t allow the enemy to steal your hope and joy. Cling tight to these promises and remind Him of just how great our God is and all He is capable of doing!
1. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
God promises He will never leave you or forsake you! One definition of forsake is to give up on. God promises he will NEVER give up on you! Regardless of your mistakes, regardless of your weaknesses, He will never leave you, He will never forsake you, he will never abandon you, what a promise!
2. “I am for you!” (Romans 8:31)
God is for you! This means He is on your side. He is working for you, not against you. He is on your team. Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for you who can be against you?” The answer is no one! When God is on your side, when he is working for you, NO ONE can come against His plans for your life.
3. “I have good plans for you!” (Jeremiah 29:11)
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) God’s plan for your life is to prosper you, to give you hope and a future! It is a good plan. His plan is never to harm you or hurt you. You can always lean into these promises and remember that God’s plan will prevail!
4. “I am your ever-present help in times of need!” (Psalm 46:1)
In trouble or in a time of need? God is your EVER-PRESENT help. He is readily available to you! Call on Him, and He will be there to help you, to overwhelm you with His loving presence. You weren’t made to conquer this world on your own, you were made to need and rely on God. Lean into Him because He is always available to you.
5. “I am preparing a place for you.” (John 14:3)
John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am”. This verse has several exciting promises within it. 1. God is preparing a place for you. 2. He will come back. 3. He will take you to be with Him. How amazing is that?!?
6. “I love you with an everlasting love!” (Jeremiah 31:3)
There is something so significant about the word everlasting in this promise. God’s love for us isn’t a love that will one day fade away, it is an everlasting, eternal love! Nothing can change or take away the great love God has for you. He is your Father in heaven who loves you with an everlasting, unending love!
7. “I will be found by you!” (Jeremiah 29:14)
God isn’t a far off mystical creature that only a select few can ever find. He tells us that when we seek Him with all of our hearts, we WILL find Him. This is His promise to you! Jeremiah 29:14, “I will be found by you,” says the LORD. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
8. “I am your strength.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Paul tells us to rejoice over our weaknesses because it allows God’s strength to be all the more present in our lives. Where we are weak, He is strong! (2 Corinthians 12:10) God is and wants to be our strength. The Joy of the Lord is our strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)
9. “I am your strong tower.” (Proverbs 18:10)
One day my daughter and I were playing with blocks, and one of the towers we built could not be broken. I immediately thought of our great God and just how powerful a strong tower is. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10) One of God’s many names is Strong Tower. This means it is in His very nature to stand firm for His people.
10. “I will protect you.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3)
God is our protector. “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3) God promises to protect you! Psalm 18:2 says, “The Lord is my protector; he is my strong fortress. My God is my protection, and with Him I am safe. He protects me like a shield; he defends me and keeps me safe.”
11. “I am your defender.” (Psalm 18:1)
This promise reminds me of Romans 8:31, “If God is for you, who can be against you?”. If God is defending you, who could possibly bring you harm? God promises to defend us! Psalm 18:1, ” How I love you, Lord! You are my defender”. I believe this promise is not only referring to God defending us against physical attacks, but also verbal insults. We can stay quiet in moments of insult and allow God to do our defending for us.
12. “I will go before you!” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
Imagine you are walking in an unfamiliar place, but someone stronger, wiser, and far braver is walking in front of you. You’d feel much more at ease, wouldn’t you? They would clear the path ahead of you. God promises to go before you! Anywhere He sends you, He will lead the way. He will clear a path for you.
13. “I have clothed you in righteousness.” (Isaiah 61:10)
When God looks at you, He sees pure beauty and righteousness. He sees who He always intended you to be, pure and blameless. When we invite Jesus into our hearts, the old man dies and the new man rises. Even though our human flesh continues to fail us, God sees you as pure, blameless, and righteous. You are literally clothed in righteousness in His sight!
Isaiah 61:10, “I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.”
14. “I have forgiven you.” (1 John 1:19)
Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” When we ask Jesus into our hearts, God promises to forgive our sins and remember them no more. You are forgiven by the King of Kings!
15. “I will provide for you.” (Philippians 4:19)
God is our provider. He urges us in the book of Matthew not to worry about what we will eat or drink or wear, for He will provide these things for us. Philippians 4:19 tells us, He will provide our EVERY need. One of His many names is Provider. We can trust and know with all of our hearts that God will provide for us; hold tight to this promise from God even when your circumstances may look or feel otherwise.
16. “I have known you since before I formed you in your mother’s womb.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
The God of the universe knows you. He knew you before He formed you in your mother’s womb. You are known, loved, and seen by the King of Kings. What an amazing promise! When we fully grasp that we are known and loved by the King of Kings, we can begin to live fully for Him, unashamed and unphased by other’s opinions.
17. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.” (Ezekiel 36:26)
Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh”. God promises to give you a new heart and a new spirit when you ask Jesus into your heart. That old man? He is gone and has been replaced with a new spirit. Your previous heart of stone has now been replaced with a heart of flesh.
18. “I have sent you a helper, friend, and comforter.” (John 16:7 )
John 16:7, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you”. When Jesus left the earth, He sent each of us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit came to advocate on our behalf, to help us, to comfort us, and to befriend us. I encourage you to call on Him often. “Holy Spirit come”, is a simple prayer to pray often.
19. “I have equipped you.” (Hebrews 13:21)
Anything God calls you to do He will equip you to do! You are fully equipped for any task God has before you. When something feels overwhelming or intimidating, remember that God has fully equipped you. Hebrews 3:20-21, “Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
20. “I have placed my spirit within you.” (Ezekiel 36:27)
Ezekiel 36:27, “And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws”. The spirit of God lives within you! This means we don’t have to do this life on our own. God tells us here that He will put His spirit within us and move us to follow His decrees and be careful to keep His laws. He doesn’t expect us to do those things on our own, He has placed His Spirit within us as our guide.
21. “I am your living hope.” (1 Peter 1:3)
1 Peter 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”. Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead and is now our living hope. As Christians, we should never find ourselves feeling hopeless because Christ is our living hope. We can always lean on, trust in, and rely on Jesus Christ our living hope.
22. “I am your keeper.” (Psalm 121:5)
Psalm 121:5, “The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand”. The NIV translation of this scripture says, “The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade.” God himself is watching over you as you read this. He is standing beside you as your protective shade. What a wonderful promise!
23. “I am your savior.” (Isaiah 43:11)
Savior can be described as one who saves from danger or destruction. Jesus Christ came and saved us for eternity. He did what only He could do. Isaiah 43:11, “I, yes I, am the LORD, and there is no other Savior”. No one else can do what He has done for us.
24. “I am your healer.” (Exodus 15:26)
Exodus 15:26, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” God is our healer. We can trust Him and turn to Him in times of sickness and disease.
25. “I will make a way.” (Isaiah 43:19)
Isaiah 43:19, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland”. This is one of my all-time favorite scriptures and promises from God. I love the fact that we don’t have to have it all figured out, we can put our full trust in God and rest assured that He will make a way even when there appears to be no way.
26. “I will answer you.” (Psalm 91:15)
When we call on God we can rest assured that He will answer us. It may take time, and it may not always be in our timing, but God promises that when we call on Him, He WILL answer us. Call on the Lord and KNOW that you will be answered. Psalm 91:15, “When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them”.
27. “I have set you apart.” (Deuteronomy 14:2)
Deuteronomy 14:2, “You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure”. To be set apart is to be made sacred or special. One definition of set apart says, “to make someone or something different and special”. You are different from the rest of the world, and God has set you apart for a special purpose. Another definition of set apart says, “select something or someone for a specific purpose”. You have been selected by God for a specific purpose.
28. “I have appointed you.” (John 15:16)
God has appointed you! Each and every one of us has been appointed by the Lord to share the good news of the Gospel. It will look different for each one of us, but we have all been appointed and called by God to share Him with others. John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
29. “I will give you peace.” (John 14:27)
God is the prince of peace. John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” He has given us a peace that surpasses all understanding. Even in times of difficulty and trouble, we can lean on our heavenly Father and experience complete and total peace.
30. “I will guide you.” (Psalm 32:8)
Psalm 32:8, The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you”. The NIV translation says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you”. Wondering what decision to make or how to move forward in your life? Turn to God! He promises to guide you, instruct you, and teach you in the way you should go.
31. “I am with you in times of trouble.” (Psalm 91:15)
Psalm 91:15, “When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them”. Facing trouble or hardship in your life? God is with you! He promises to be with us in times of trouble. Call on Him and He will answer you.
32. “I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” The battle has already been won, and He wears the victor’s crown! What an incredibly wonderful promise that we can find great rest in. God has already won the battle!
33. “I will reveal hidden truths to you.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known”. Call on the Lord and be prepared to be filled with great mysteries and wonder. God has remarkable revelations He is just waiting to unveil to you.
