Satan is often described as the master deceiver. The first account we have of Satan from the book of Genesis is of him deceiving Eve. He wants nothing more than to fill our minds with lies so that the Truth is hidden from us.
Galatians 5:9 in the Passion Translation says this, “Don’t you know that when you allow even a little lie into your heart, it can permeate your entire belief system?” Paul was addressing the church of Galatia in this passage. They had been believing the words of false prophets, and those lies were permeating their belief system.
But who do you think planted the lies in the false prophets’ heads? Satan. So, we must stay mindful of all of the ways he attacks. Most translations of this passage describe the lies like a little yeast ruining a whole batch of dough. Lies from the enemy have the ability to ruin our entire belief system if we don’t recognize them as the lie they are and stop believing them.
Today I am sharing with you 7 lies from Satan that we must stop believing once and for all. Check them out below!
1. “You Can’t Hear from God”
Satan loves to attack Christians in this area. Maybe you do believe you can hear from God, but you don’t hear from Him often. Can I encourage you today to stop believing this lie from the enemy and start believing the truth that you can hear from God, and you can hear from Him often?
God longs to have a deep, personal, intimate relationship with you, and relationships require communication. We regularly communicate with those closest to us. Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me”.
Friends, God is standing at the door of your heart knocking, will you let Him in? We must stop believing the lie from Satan that we don’t hear from God and instead begin responding to God’s voice. That scripture tells us if ANYONE hears my voice. We all fall into the category of anyone.
The best antidote to overcome this lie is to just simply start responding when you think you are hearing God’s voice. It is often just a small whisper or a nudge in your spirit. I believe the more you respond the more you will start hearing.
Decide today that if you think you are hearing from God you probably are and just simply start responding to those small nudges. Over time, they will become more evident to you. If this is a topic that interests you, I have a post titled, 3 Ways to Hear from God More Often.
2. “You Are Too Needy”
Recently I went through a season where every time I came to God, I felt weary and needy. It was as if it was all I could do to simply get to the feet of Jesus and ask Him once again to fill my cup.
The enemy quickly began to plant the lie in my head that I was too needy. If you too have ever heard this lie from the enemy, I encourage you to denounce it in the name of Jesus. Jesus wants us to come to Him with our weariness and needs.
He tells us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. We are meant to come to Him in our times of need. He is the only one who can truly fill our cups.
Don’t allow the enemy to convince you that you should instead turn to others or things to fill the need only Jesus can fill.
3. “You Aren’t Equipped, Capable, and Called”
Whether you know your exact calling at this moment or not, you are called, chosen, and equipped by God. For we have all been chosen to be His very own. (1 Peter 2:9) We all have a call on our lives, and we can’t allow the enemy to convince us otherwise.
He wants nothing more than to convince Christians that they are not called, chosen, and equipped by God. He does not want you to step into all that God has available for you, so he will fight you on this tooth and nail.
Let me assure you that you are equipped, capable, and called to the great mission of sharing Jesus Christ with others. God has a mighty plan for your life, and it is good. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

4. “You Can’t Fully Surrender”
Satan knows the power of a fully surrendered life in Christ, and he wants nothing more than to keep us from full surrender. He says things like, “you’ve got to hold on to some things” “You could never let go of XYZ” “But you have to earn a living”.
Don’t give in to these lies. If God is calling you to surrender it, you can! It is possible to live a life FULLY surrendered to God. Be willing at any moment to lay it all down. Jesus modeled this for us all the way to His death.
He was fully surrendered to God and His will for His life. For His ways are higher than ours. (Isaiah 55:9) Even when something doesn’t make sense in our logical minds, we need to be willing to fully submit and surrender to the Lord. He will never lead us astray. You can live a fully surrendered life!
5. “You Can’t Fully Forgive”
Satan held this lie over my head for years. Why does he work so hard to convince us of this lie? Because he knows the havoc unforgiveness can create in our lives. Refusing to forgive has been described as pouring gasoline on yourself, lighting yourself on fire and hoping the other person will die of smoke inhalation.
You are hurting yourself more than you are hurting them. Often they go on with their lives, and we are stuck in this horrible rut of bitterness and unforgiveness. As hard as it is, we MUST forgive.
Remember, forgiving someone doesn’t mean you agree with them or think what they did was right, you are simply just releasing yourself from the bondage and slavery that unforgiveness causes in your life.
The great news is that we don’t have to do this in our own strength! We can rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to do this within us. Ask Him to help you forgive. If this is something you are struggling with, I have a post called, “How to Forgive When It Feels Impossible”, or you can grab a free resource below to help you begin the journey to fully forgive.
6. “You Don’t Have to Love Them”
This is another tough one, not only must we forgive, we must then go on to love. Now love doesn’t always look the way the world makes it look. We are called to LOVE the person; this doesn’t mean we have to love and accept their sin.
In fact, we are supposed to detest their sin just as God does, but we still LOVE the person. This can be tough to navigate and something you will need to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance on. Everyone’s situation is unique and sometimes loving someone from afar is the best thing for your situation. Be sure to seek the Holy Spirit for wisdom on this.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 5 to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Prayer is a powerful way to begin loving those that feel impossible to love. Pray and ask God to help you see them through His eyes. Seeing people through God’s eyes makes all the difference!
7. “You Can Do That, Everyone Else is Doing it”
We simply cannot live our lives according to how everyone around us is living theirs. We have been set apart, chosen by God to live a holy life. We are not meant to live as the world lives.
“For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 1:9
We must stay intentional about listening for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us on how we should live our lives. We simply cannot do what everyone else around us is doing.
Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Lies From Satan
The great news is that we don’t have to continue to believe these lies from Satan. We can combat His attacks with the living Word which is described as our sword. We can literally fight this battle with Satan through the Word of God.
When Satan begins to whisper these lies to you, remind him of what the Word of God says about your situation. Bookmark scriptures relevant to your situation and turn to them when Satan tries to fill your mind with lies.
God is for you on this journey. If you need more encouragement to shut up the voice of Satan check out this post with 5 Ways to Silence the Voice of Satan.
