Do you hear from God often? If not, I’d like to encourage you that it is more than possible to hear from God regularly. God is talking, and we can ALL hear from Him.
John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”. If you have asked Jesus into your heart, you are His sheep, and YOU can hear His voice.
If you aren’t sure if you’ve given your life to Jesus, you can do it right now. It’s as simple as saying, “Lord I give you my life. I surrender all to you”. If you just made the decision to follow Jesus, congratulation! It is the best decision you will ever make. I encourage you to share the news with someone! 🙂
Below I am going to give you three ways to hear from God more often. He is our good shepherd, and we need to be alert to His voice in this life.
1. Practice
Our mind over complicates hearing from God. Hearing from God is that nudge in our spirit we often feel.
As soon as we feel that nudge, the enemy is on the attack. “That wasn’t God.” “You didn’t feel anything.” “He wouldn’t tell you to do that.”
I started refusing to listen to that voice after I heard a pastor say this, “Thinking you are hearing from God and responding only to be “wrong”, is better than hearing from God and not responding only to be right.”
If you think you are hearing from God, you probably are, and you should respond accordingly. Use wisdom however, God would never ask you to do something that will bring harm to yourself or others.
So often God is guiding us with gentle nudges throughout the day, and we don’t respond because we let the enemy seep in and convince us it’s not God we are hearing from.
No, that’s in fact Him, and the more you respond the more aware you will become.
Make up your mind today that if you think you are hearing from God you probably are, and you should just simply respond.
The more you become sensitive to His voice and listen, the more you’ll hear from Him.
Chris Hodges said this, “We can adjust our lives to hear the voice of God. It is much like tuning a dial to pick up a radio station. Sometimes there may be static in the airways (distraction, confusion, fear, etc.), but if we continue to seek the Lord and His way of doing things, our spirit will rise above the static, and we will be able to tune in to the broadcast of truth”.
2. Slow down
In this digital fast paced world, we barely fully listen to the people sitting right in front of us. How often are our minds too distracted to even fully hear the people around us?
I’d like to encourage you to slow down and make space to hear from God. Spend time intentionally listening for His voice. Take five minutes out of your day to just sit and listen for His voice.
If you are not used to sitting still and quiet for even short periods of time, this will not come naturally, but I encourage you to try. God makes us a promise in Jeremiah 29:13 that if we will seek Him with all of our heart, we will find Him.
If you are desiring to hear the voice of God more often, take time to slow down and intentionally listen for His voice. According to His Word, you will hear from Him.
3. Shut Up the Voice of Satan
I saved the best for last. That other voice that says, “that’s not God, it’s just you”, that is Satan working with all his might to convince you that you aren’t hearing from God.
Get in a habit of telling Satan to “SHUT UP”! Say it out loud or in your head. Add in the name of Jesus and he has no choice but to bow.
“Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” –Philippians 2:9-10
Next time a thought crosses your mind that you know isn’t from God shut it up. Get in the habit of immediately silencing Satan’s voice. The minute his voice creeps in to convince you that you are not hearing from God, shut him up! If you’d like to read more about this topic, I have a post called, 5 Ways to Silence the Voice of Satan, that you can check out here!
In Conclusion
I hope these three ways to hear from God more often, encouraged you. I pray and believe that as you become intentional about hearing from the Lord that you absolutely will.
When that voice creeps in to distract you or convince you that you aren’t hearing from God, shut it up. You are God’s child, and you DO hear from Him.
Practice hearing from God, slowing down, and shutting up the voice of Satan; and you will be well on your way to hearing from God more often!

5 Ways to Silence the Voice of Satan
I struggle with hearing from God, even though I have heard from Him some. My problem is that I have a tendency to think it just my imagination. So I get really confused and do not know what to think. Can you help me? Lynn
Thinking you are only hearing your own voice is so common. My best suggestion is to just continue to respond anytime you think you are hearing from God and over time it will become more and more clear to you when it is God’s voice that you are hearing. Praying God begins to reveal His voice to you like never before!
Thank you Ma’am for these encouraging words! I believe I’m God’s beloved child and he always speaks to me and all I have to do is listen and obey❤️
You absolutely are His beloved child and He is always speaking to you. 🙂 Praying your ears are more in-tune with Him than ever before. Blessings to you!
