I was recently reading the story of Solomon in I Kings. Whether you’ve read it recently or not, you might remember hearing it. God appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked him what He should give him. Instead of asking for riches or fame, Solomon asked for wisdom.
The LORD asked Him what he wanted, and he chose WISDOM. He understood the power in having wisdom, especially wisdom in the Lord.
If God appeared to you and asked you what you would like from Him, would your response be wisdom? We often think we need more things, or more time, or more money; when in reality, wisdom from the Lord is the solution to our problems and situations.
Wisdom vs Knowledge
Knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. Wisdom is the ability to use knowledge correctly. In this day and age, we all have knowledge right at our fingertips. You can simply Google and find out anything you would possibly want to know, but having wisdom allows us to use that knowledge appropriately.
Wisdom is thought to be something that comes over time or through experiences, but wisdom can also be imparted to us supernaturally through the Holy Spirit. It is one of the gifts of the Spirit, and it is a gift that is given to you freely from the Holy Spirit.
But, if we don’t understand the power of something, we don’t know to ask for it in our lives. I want to take a moment today to share with you 3 ways to begin to seek wisdom in your life.

1. Approach God from a place of reverence and worship.
Wisdom is not possible without reverence and worship. In order for God to impart us with wisdom, we must first be reverent and full of worship towards Him. We see this said in Psalm 111:10, “The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and skill”.
Would you like more wisdom in your life? Begin today by praising and having reverence toward God. Wisdom without worship is impossible, and worship without reverence is impossible. In order to receive wisdom, we must worship; and in order to worship, we must have reverence.
Reverence is defined as having a deep respect for someone. By having reverence for the Lord, we are able to properly follow his commandments and also receive His wisdom.
2. Read the book of Proverbs.
When I looked up the word wisdom in the back of my study bible, eight of the ten verses were found in the book of Proverbs. If you would like more wisdom in the Lord, I would encourage you to start by reading the book of Proverbs.
It is full of wisdom! As you are reading, ask God to help you understand what He would have you understand from the scriptures. Take your time reading them and allow His wisdom to be imparted in you.
Did you know the book of Proverbs has 31 chapters? Growing up my dad read a Proverbs a day. Since there are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs you can read one for each day of the month. I talk more about this and other bible study tips in my post, 10 Tips to Study the Bible.

3. Believe and know that God can impart His wisdom to you.
God wants to bless you with wisdom and since it is a gift of the Holy Spirit, wisdom is available for you! Wisdom can help guide you in all areas of your life.
Believe in your heart that wisdom is something available to you and ask God to impart it to you. Take time to praise Him and seek what His word says about wisdom.
Ask and you Shall Receive
If you have read or heard the story of Solomon, you might recall what God actually granted Solomon. Since Solomon chose to receive wisdom, God said I will not only grant you wisdom, but also riches and honor beyond that which anyone has ever received. (I Kings 3:13)
If you are struggling with something today, I urge you to seek God for wisdom on how to handle your situation. Don’t simply ask Him to change or remove your problem, but rather ask Him for wisdom on how to deal with it. Choosing to seek wisdom from the Lord can radically improve your life.
Take a moment right now to ask God for wisdom. Do you desire to have a greater understanding of the bible? Ask God to help you become wise in this area. We serve an all-knowing God, and He wants to bless you with wisdom in your life. Reach out to Him, he will meet you there!
